Tips And Ideas For Scheduling Study Time

Once you’ve chosen a course, the next step is to figure out when you can carve out some time during the day to get schooled.

Now you may be asking yourself, when and how do I fit this in?

When is it a good time to study?

What is the best study method?

Don’t you worry your pretty little face, we have you covered there too.

Believe it or not, many people work and study at the same time.

Especially with rising student loans and rental prices.

These people are what we like to call magicians.

Well, not actually. But it may seem like it at first.

Luckily the group over at asapScience has laid out a short video giving you all the best tips.

VIDEO: The 9 BEST Scientific Study Tips
LENGTH: 3:25
Summary points:
  • 30-minute study sessions are key
  • Use cue cards whenever you can
  • Learn as if you have to teach this to someone else

Scheduled Short Study Sessions

You’ve heard the old saying about having the memory of a goldfish?

Well, that’s not too far off for all of us.

This is why scheduling short study sessions in the best thing you could do for yourself.

And luckily, the courses are all broken into smaller sections because the educators already know this.

Try by following a few of these steps:
  • Find a quiet room.
  • Shut off or silence your phone
  • Do not listen to music
  • Study for 25 minutes, then get up and walk around for 5 minutes.
  • Get fresh air if you can
  • Keep notes on cue cards
  • Make sure you can explain what you are learning to someone

Stay Focused On The Prize

Keep your end goal in mind.

It may seem overwhelming at first but concentrate on that certificate.

You know this will make your life easier in the end, and therefore a little bit of struggle is worth it.

Every time you find yourself losing hope, write down in 1 or 2 simple sentences why you are doing this.

Paste that on your cubicle cabinet so you see it every day.

Maximize Every Minute

We understand there is nothing better than lounging and vegging.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are constantly calling our names to scroll aimlessly at nothing.

However, if you take the next couple of months and use that time to study, you’ll be finished in no time at all.

Use Your Smartphone For Studying

Okay, we said to turn off or put your smartphone on silent earlier, but in this case, it can be a useful tool for taking coursework.

Most schools now have apps, which means you can quite literally take your course anywhere.

Whether you commute, go for runs, or like listening to something during lunch, you can pre-download your lessons and listen to them while doing something else.

Chose 1 Study Day For Your Exam

If you have a test, take one day, or even half a day, dedicated to just studying. It will be worth it in the end.

This may mean that your significant other or your parents may need to help with the kids.

Or you may need to sacrifice some other activities to make room for this.

It is worth it in the end!

Learn On Company Time

Most businesses will be impressed that you are taking the initiative to go ahead and further your education.

In some cases, certain jobs will even work with your schedule to help you plan some extra study time.

If the course directly benefits their company, there are more apt to allow you to do it during official business hours.

Check in with your boss and/or HR beforehand.

Do It During Breaks At Work

If you’re not able to learn on company time, don’t fret because you can still sneak school in at the office.

That’s right, it’s a double whammy.

A lot of the courses we went through above actually only require around 3 hours a week.

Broken down into a 5 day work week, that’s only 20 minutes a day.

Social media definitely gets more attention than that in an average day.

So why not lock yourself out of Facebook on your breaks and lunchtime, and get a little schooling done.

The best part about this is, you can apply something you’ve learned right away.

In all three categories actually.
  • You’re making time for your schooling.
  • You’re managing your “school” project.
  • And you can communicate this to your co-workers so they know not to bug you.
It will be challenging to work and study.

It’s Time To Get Ahead

Hey, we know what you’re going through and what you’re thinking.

It’s hard enough just trying to keep up with what’s on your plate now. And, asking you to do more work and take courses during your work day seems utterly ridiculous and impossible.

You barely have any free time and what little you do have, you’d rather spend decompressing from the stresses of work.

We get it.

But, you’ve gotta get outta the vicious cycle of not being able to keep up with your workload.

Don’t think of taking online classes as more work. Reframe it as strength training for your business mind.

In fact, you’re training your mind you to give you more free time.

With a bit of commitment and focus, you can hone the the core fundamental skills of time management, project management and business communications.

And in doing so, you can go from barely keeping your head above water to swimming laps like Michael Phelps.

But, it all starts with the first step of taking just one course and building up from there.

So, sign up for one course, put on your arm floaties, let your worries drift away and have a splashtastic time learning with these courses.
